From 1st March 2021 we will be introducing a security feature called Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) on ALL user accounts. This feature will require you to use a second method to authenticate (logon) to your account when you are accessing any of our systems/data from outside our main network (ie from your home, café etc).
If you access any systems/data from inside our network (ie from any of our venues) you will not be required to use a second method to logon.
When we introduce MFA all users will also be able to reset your own Microsoft 365 passwords without the need to contact the IT Helpdesk.
What is MFA?
Passwords can be easily compromised. MFA immediately increases your account security by requiring multiple forms of verification to prove your identity when signing into a system.
Why are you introducing this?
The use of MFA is now best practice for logging on to both business and personal systems. Due to recent events a larger number of our employees are now working from home which increases the chances of accounts being hacked.
How do I set up my Edinburgh Leisure Account for MFA?
The following video demonstrates the experience you will see when MFA is turned on for your account. Using the Microsoft Authenticator app is the preferred/easiest option and the video shows how to set this up however if this is not suitable for you (ie you do not have a smart phone) then you can select the other methods such as Text Message, Phone Call or Alternative (non-Edinburgh Leisure) Email Address that are also available. You are required to set up 2 authentication methods.
What happens if I don’t have a mobile phone or my mobile phone is not working?
You can setup alternative/backup verification methods should you not have a smart phone or your smart phone is not working. These include receiving a text message, receiving a phone call or receiving an email to a non-Edinburgh Leisure email address. You are required to set up 2 methods to start with however to set up additional alternative/backup verification methods please log on to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
What happens if I get a new mobile phone?
Before you dispose of your old mobile phone please download the Microsoft Authenticator app on to your new phone. Log on to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and click Add Method and select Authenticator App to register your new mobile phone. Once you have verified your new phone is working you can delete the old Authenticator Apps from your account.
What happens if I lose my mobile phone?
We can delete your authentication methods for you should you lose your phone. You will then be required to setup MFA and register your authentication methods again. Please contact helpdesk@edinburghleisure.co.uk to request this.
What personal accounts can I use MFA on?
MFA can also be set up to secure other accounts you may have such as Facebook, Amazon, Twitter and Instagram to name but a few. These accounts are susceptible to being ‘hacked’ and we cannot encourage you enough to also setup MFA on these types of accounts. Here are some guides to help you secure your personal accounts too;
•Instagram - Setup Guide
•Amazon - Setup Guide
•Twitter - Setup Guide
•Facebook - Setup Guide
How can I get additional support?
You can contact us by emailing helpdesk@edinburghleisure.co.uk. Please detail the issues you are having and we will get in contact to help you resolve these. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide support to setup MFA on non-Edinburgh Leisure accounts.
